WEDDING GIFTS
"The King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family will be present at the Chapel Royal today at the marriage of the Marquis Carisbrooke and Lady Irene Denison, daughter of Lord and Lady Londesborough. The ceremony will be performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury at 3 p.m. The King and Queen will sign the register.
Among the presents to the bride and bridegroom is a handsome set jewels from the King and Queen and a diamond necklace from the King and Queen of Spain, while a
pearl necklace is the gift of Lord and Lady Londesborough to Lady Denison."
From Queen Alexandra a piece of jewellery and
A diamond and sapphire pendant/brooch from Mrs Ronald Greville.
In place of costly jewels, many of the bride’s friends have given cherished family treasures, as there are gifts from all the members of the Royal Family, the King and Queen of Norway and King Manoel and Queen Augusta Victoria.
In the portrait above, the Marchioness of Carisbrooke is dressed in formal attire, wearing a
burgundy and silver dress, with a fur, and on her right side a large sapphire brooch with diamonds and a pearl bracelet, probably one of the wedding gifts.
Irene Frances Adza Denison 1890-1956, was the only daughter of the second Earl of Londesborough and Lady Grace Adelaide Fane. She is best remembered for her tireless charitable endeavours on behalf of the House of Windsor.
