Ruby and Diamond Earrings | Geraldine of Albania | Crown | Royal Jewels

Queen Geraldine is pictured wearing a pair of ruby fringe and diamond earrings in Cascade design with her tiara. At the 1960 sale of Albanian Royal jewels, a description of a pair of earrings appears to match those worn by the Queen.

"One pair [of earrings], nearly four inches deep, consists of a cascade of diamonds fringed with gem rubies."
 "Another of Mrs. Ostier's problems was in making chandelier earrings to wear with the tiara that would be in proportion with the Queen's truly swan-like neck. She succeeded and tipped them with tiny rubies that look lovely against the skin."

Other unique pieces designed by Marianne for the Albanian royal family included:

"A diamond link chain inspired by Hungarian Hussars in full dress uniform,[it] is 30 inches long but may be worn as a short necklace or choker. It has a detachable pendant tasselated with scores of small brilliants. . . . . Two flexible diamond bracelets, wide as cuffs, containing some 500 gems each. There are several dainty pieces with concealed watch faces.

The special quality of Mrs. Ostier's jewelry is its modern look. One of her techniques is to use round diamonds in contrast with baguettes. In the buckle that held the Queen's opera cape, this technique gives brilliance to every detail. Another principle is practicality. Each piece must be so versatile that the wearer can  use it in several ways. Many of her large brooches separate into clips."

Most of the pieces were in their original cases marked with the coat of arms of the former kingdom of Albania in gold.
