Princess Ferdinand with her important and attractive ruby and diamond necklace.

It's designed as a riviere of cushion-shaped rubies and large rubyclusters, diamonds supporting festoons of cushion-shaped diamonds and ruby and diamond stylised flowerhead.

A similar version of this superb necklace is made by Chaumet for the corbillion for the Duchess of Montellano, see the display on the bottem left and the collier on the background. An example of the stylistic requirements of turn-of-the-century jewellery design.

Conceived as a riviere of stones supporting a series of diamonds loops, the necklace falls between teh fringe designs of the late 19th century and the elicate garland creations typical of the early 20th century, delicacy and lightness, like trimmings of the contemporary dresses.
