ERLESENE STÜCKE aus der Juwelensammlung der Maria Callas -- "La Divina"

Callas, zweifelsohne die berühmteste Opernsängerin aller Zeiten, war auch eine leidenschaftliche und gezielte Juwelensammlerin. Die Mehrzahl der Preziosen,waren ihr von ihrem Ehemann Giovanni Battista Meneghini in den fünfziger Jahren geschenkt worden. Nach ihrem Tod vor 27 Jahren gingen sie in den Besitz eines Mitglieds ihres engsten Kreises über. Auf dem einen Foto oben, trägt sie ein Paar Ohrclips mit Diamanten, oftmals hielt sie auch das goldfarbene Vanity von Van Cleef & Arpels in der Hand (Schätzpreis: €4'500-8'000)

Das teuerste Stück dieser Kollektion ist ein marquiseförmiger Diamantring mit einem Gewicht von 11.7 Carat. Dieser dürfte einen Preis zwischen € 110'000-160'000 haben
Auf dem Bild mit Fürstin Grace von Monaco trägt sie diesen wundervollen Ring, die Diamantohrclips und ihr atemberaubendes Rubin-Diamant-Collier. Die beiden waren befreundet und man sah sie auch beim gemeinsamen Urlaub auf der Jacht von Aristoteles Onassis. zur Hochzeit schenkte Onassis der zukünfigen Fürstin ein Armband mit Rubinen und Diamanten besetzt.

Callas, arguably the world's most famous operatic soprano, was also a passionate and discerning collector of fine jewellery. Most of which were given to her by her husband, Giovanni Battista Meneghini, during the 1950s and which were bequeathed to a member of her circle after her death 27 years ago.

In a number of the photographs and above, she is wearing a pair of diamond earclips and often clutching the gold evening bag by Van Cleef & Arpels (est: £2,800-5,200/$5,000-8,000)
The most expensive piece in her collection is a marquise-shaped diamond ring, weighing 11.7 carats. It is estimated to fetch $120,000-180,000.

MARIA CALLAS (1923-77)

Arguably the world's most famous operatic soprano, Maria Anna Sophie Cecilia Kalogeropoulos, was born in New York in 1923.
Her parents, George and Evangelia Kalogeropoulos had emigrated from Greece to Long Island, in August of that year. The family name changed to Callas in 1929 but reverted to Kalogeropoulos when Maria was just 14, as her parents separated and she moved with her mother and sister to Athens.
There she was admitted to the National Conservatoire and in 1939 performed her first recital of Cavalleria Rusticana.
In 1941 she made her professional debut in Boccaccio with the Lyric Theatre Company but in 1944 decided to return to America, where she reclaimed the Callas name.
In 1949 she married the wealthy industrialist Giovanni Battista Meneghini, who immediately took control of her career. During the course of the next ten years, she became world-famous through her legendary performances in Milan, New York, Chicago and London.
She also met and fell in love with the Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, which resulted in the end of her marriage and eventually the end of her stage career. She devoted herself to Onassis and their jet-set lifestyle but the stormy relationship did not last and in 1968, he married Jacqueline Kennedy.
Her last public performance was in Japan in November 1974. Callas returned to her home in Paris and died in 1977.

MARIA CALLAS (1923-77)

Discutiblemente la soprano más famosa del mundo, Maria Ana Sophie Cecilia Kalogeropoulos, nació en Nueva York, en 1923. Sus padres, George y Evangelia Kalogeropoulos, eran inmigrants griegos que habían partido de su patria en agosto de ese mismo año. En 1929 el nombre de familia fue cambiado a Callas, pero debido a la separación de sus padres, acaecida cuando ella contaba con 14 años, Kalogeropoulos fue retomado, ya que su madre las llevó a su y su hermana a Atenas. Allí fue aceptada en el Conservatorio Nacional, donde en 1939 hizo su debut en el Cavalleria Rusticana Rezital.

El año 1941 marca su debut oficial en Boccaccio con la Compañía de Teatro Lírica, y en 1944, en su regreso a América, ella retoma el apellido Callas una vez más.

En 1949 contrajo matrimonio con el rico industrial Giovanni Battista Meneghini, que inmediatamente comenzo a manejar su carrera.

Durante los siguientes diez años, alcanzó su fama mundial, debido a sus ya legendarias actuaciones en Milán, Nueva York, Chicago y Londres.

Posteriormente conoció a magnate griego Aristotle Onassis, un encuentro que puso fin a su matrimonio y marcó el principio del fin de su carrera.

Centró su vida en Onassis y comenzó a vivir en el estilo del jet-set. La diva preferido del mundo lució a menudo sus joyas en Monte Carlo.... Onassis era muy cercano al príncipe de Mónaco en aquellos días, y dio a princesa Grace una pulsera de diamantes y de rubíes como regalo de boda. Maria y Grace se hicieron amigas y los príncipes realizaron varias travesías con Onassis y Callas en su yate Christina. Pero la tempestuosa relación entre Callas y el magnate griego no duró, y en 1968 el Onassis casó Jacqueline Kennedy. Maria Callas realizó su última aparición pública en noviembre de 1974, en Japón. Regresó luego a París, donde falleció en 1977.
