Diamant Diadem Schmuck| Diamond-Tiara | Londonderry Jewels
Der Diamantschmuck der Marchioness von Londonderry gefertigt aus einem
Prunkschwert und dem Orden of the Garder.
The tiara worn by Theresa Marchioness of Londonderry has been dramatically
altered since it was first made. At one time, each individual element
was set with a pearl, but these have been replaced by diamonds and its
original gallery of pear-shaped pearls has also been removed. The diamond
parure was made by Garrard in 1854 from stones removed from Marchioness
Emily´s jewels and the second Marquess' Garter insignia.
The British novelist E.F. Benson also recalled the strong-minded Marchioness
with something akin to admiration: "She went for life hammer
and tongs?. Like a highwayman in a tiara, trampling on her enemies as
if they had been a bed of nettles."
When she died, the British military journalist, Charles Repington, wrote:
"she was one of the most striking and dominating feminine personalities
of our time, terrifying to some, but endeared to many friends by her
notable and excellent qualities."
