Luncheon wss served in a large open marquee erected on the lawn of the pleasure grounds in the rear of the house. Upwards of 160 guests sat down.

Lord Glamis and his bride sat at the top of the principal table under a large bell, composed entirely of fresh, variedly coloured roses, and when the bride cut the cake the bell was swung. The band of the 2nd Life Guards, con- ducted by Mr. W. Winterbotham, played during the breakfast and afternoon. Before the guests rose from the table the Duke of Portland proposed "The health, happiness, and prosperity of the bride and bridegroom," whose wedding tbey bad assembled to celebrate, and Lord Glainis briefly thanked the Duke and friends for their kind wishes on his own behalf and that of his wife. At half-past three o'clock Lord and Lady Glamis started for St. Paul's, Walden, the Earl of Strathmore's place in Hertfordshire, where they purpose passing the honey- moon. The bride's travelling dress was of ecru nun's cloth, trimmed with lace, and hat to match.

According to Grania Forbes,Lord Strathmore's father had nearly bankrupted the estate by building Episcopalian churches all over Scotland; so his was not a wealthy family, but Strathmore was renowned as a considerate and generous laird. Interested in the welfare of his tenants, he believed in and encouraged smallholdings as a form of tenancy. Although of a somewhat retiring disposition, he was a welcoming and hospitable host. The Strathmores were one of the last families in Scotland to employ a jester for family entertainments. He was a fanatical cricketer, and matches at Glamis were taken very seriously. Lord Strathmore died at Glamis on 7 November 1944 and was succeeded by his eldest son.

When the Countess Strathmore died in 1938 she left her jewels to her daughter the Duchess of York see details from the newspaper of her last will:

I bequeath thefollowing legacies: " To my grandson, John Bowes-Lyon (commonly called the Master of Glamis). £2OO if he shall not then have succeeded to the title of Earl of Strathmore. "To my granddaughter, Anne Bowes- Lyon, daughter of my late son, John Herbert Bowes-Lyon, £1,000; to Gavin Ralston and Miss Jean Rawston. C5O each; to Donald Mclnnes, £25.

"To my youngest daughter, H.R.H. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Duchess of York, my diamond snake bracelet, my yellow diamond cross, half of my china at 84 Eaton Square, also the picture now hanging in the morningroom at 84 Eaton Square and said to be a copy by Pietro di Cosimo of the original painting by Raphael. This was collected by my grandfather, Colonel Burnaby, and given to me by my sister.

"To my eldest 6011. Patrick Lord Glauns, the portrait of the Duchess of York; to my son-in-law, H.R.H. the Duke of York, the two miniatures of the Duchess of York at St. Paul's Walden."

Probably the snake bracelet is now reworked as necklace for Camilla - not sure but possible - when Prince Charles, got all the jewels from his great-grandmother. But he had presented it before her first marriage, she wore it on her first wedding day, on the arm.
