This exquisite piece of jewelry was presented to Princess Märtha Louise by her grandfather, King Olav of Norway, on the occasion of her 18th birthday.
The tiara, of Diamond Oat Ears , is a small and delicate creation, meticulously documented in the Boucheron archives from the year 1906 under design number 12488.
The design showcases a distinctive motif of overlapping oat ears, a symbol often associated with abundance and prosperity, all setted with smaller and larger diamonds. Boucheron, a renowned Parisian jewelry house founded in 1858, has long been celebrated for its innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship. This tiara is a perfect example of the maison's ability to combine nature-inspired themes with elegance and refinement.
Unfortunately, the history of this tiara before it came into the possession of King Olav remains a mystery. At some point after it entered the Norwegian royal collection, the tiara was altered by adding pearls atop and between the oat ears. While the pearls add a unique touch, some might argue that the original design would have been more harmonious with the addition of navette-cut diamonds, maintaining the tiara's sleek and sophisticated aesthetic.
Princess Märtha Louise chose to wear this tiara on the occasion of her second wedding, using it as a bridal tiara, further cementing its place in the history of the Norwegian royal family. The piece, with its rich history and elegant design, remains a beautiful testament to the artistry of Boucheron and the timeless nature of royal jewelry.
