Hochzeitstag erhielt Prinzessin Helena ein Perlen-Diamant-Collier als Geschenk, das sie – wie auf dem oberen Bild zu sehen – sowohl als Diadem trug als auch als Halskette. Ergänzt wurde es durch eine lange Perlenkette sowie eine große Brosche in Form einer Mondsichel aus Diamanten. Ein weiteres bemerkenswertes Schmuckstück war eine Brosche mit drei hängenden Perlenpampeln. Diese erinnert stark an die Diamant-Corsagenbrosche, die Königin Mary später als Hochzeitsgeschenk an ihre Schwiegertochter, Lady Alice (Herzogin von Gloucester), überreichte – dort jedoch nicht mit Perlen, sondern mit drei tropfenförmigen Diamanten. Die Hochzeit von Prinzessin Helena Augusta Victoria Die Trauung Ihrer Königlichen Hoheit Prinzessin Helena Augusta Victoria, der dritten Tochter von Königin Victoria und Prinz Albert, Herzog von Sachsen, Prinz von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, fand am 5. Juli 1866 in der Privatkapelle von Windsor statt. Die Braut trug ein üppiges Kleid aus changierendem weißen Satin mit tiefen Volants aus erlesener englischer Spitze und einer extra langen Schleppe, geschmückt mit Sträußchen von Orangenblüten und Myrte. Der Kranz bestand aus Orangenblüten und Myrte; der Brautschleier war aus feinster Honiton-Spitze gefertigt. Als Schmuck wählte die Braut eine Halskette, Ohrringe und eine Brosche mit Opalen und Diamanten – ein Geschenk der Königin – sowie Armbänder mit Miniaturen und den Orden ihrer Mutter. Die Brautjungfern trugen weiße Tüllröcke, geschmückt mit Silber und Blumenkränzen aus Vergissmeinnicht, Rosen und Heidekraut. Zeitgenössische Berichte über Gäste und Hof Die Prinzessin von Wales erschien in blauem Tüll über blauer Seide, reich mit irischer Spitze im Schneeglöckchenmuster verziert, dazu eine Diamanttiara, Schleier und Perlen-Diamantschmuck. Die Prinzessinnen Beatrice und Louise trugen weiße Tüllunterröcke über irischer Spitze mit blauen Satinschleppen, bestickt in Silber. Ihre Majestät Königin Victoria selbst trug ein schwarzes antikes Kleid aus Moiré, durchwirkt mit Silber, mit schwarzem Trauerflor. Dazu ein Diadem aus Diamanten über einem langen weißen Schleier, eine Diamantkette und eine große Saphir-Brosche, eingefasst von Diamanten. Silver Wedding Anniversary Gifts Princess Christian’s Silver Wedding, 1891 In späteren Jahren erhielt Prinzessin Helena zum silbernen Hochzeitsjubiläum ein bedeutendes Geschenk: At Buckingham Palace, a deputation of about 100 ladies, representing 2,000 subscribers, presented Princess Christian with a handsome diamond tiara to commemorate her Silver Wedding. The tiara had been previously presented privately by the Countess of Arran, in order that the Princess might be able to wear it at her daughter’s marriage. Zusätzlich ist eine Diamant-Mondsichel als Brosche, dokumentiert. Ein weiteres Geschenk war ein Perlen-Diamant-Collier, überreicht in einem mit königlichem Monogramm versehenen Etui, begleitet von einem Album mit 312 Namen der Spender. Queen Victoria, married Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1831–1917) in the Private Chapel at Windsor on 5th July 1866. The princess received several presents from Queen Victoria – notably a tiara, necklace, brooch, and earrings composed of turquoises set in diamonds. In later years, Princess Helena was seen wearing jewels with pearls, as well as this necklace. The Silver Wedding Tiara The tiara was a 25th wedding anniversary gift presented by the Household of the Queen. Contemporary reports recorded: “Princess Christian received at Buckingham on Tuesday about 100 ladies, representing 2,000 contributors, to a handsome present in the shape of a tiara of diamonds, to commemorate her silver wedding. The tiara had been previously presented privately by the Countess of Arran, in order that the Princess might be able to wear it at her daughter’s marriage.” Another report confirmed: “At Buckingham Palace, yesterday, a deputation of ladies, headed by Lady Arran, congratulated Princess Christian on the anniversary of her silver wedding day, and presented Her Royal Highness with a handsome tiara of diamonds.” Other Important Jewels Princess Helena was also seen with a large crescent brooch set with diamonds. An costley gift which was given to Princess Helen as a 25th wedding gift from the Royal British Nurses' Association but based on its description ( sun star brooch - 2nd mystery). "The committee of the Royal British Nurses' Association has chosen a diamond sun star, a copy from the antique, as the silver wedding gift from the association to its president, her Royal Highness the Princess Christian. Messrs. Carrington, of 130 Regent-street, were the successful competitors, and the gift will be on view to nurses and others at their show rooms until Saturday." From The Times An especially important jewel in her collection was a brooch with three pendant pearls.See above worn.Its design closely resembled the grand diamond corsage brooch presented by Queen Mary as a wedding gift to her daughter-in-law, Lady Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, it was probably bought by Queen Mary and altered. The difference lies in the pendants: while Helena’s brooch displayed lustrous drop-shaped pearls, Queen Mary’s jewel was distinguished by three matching diamond drops: A large diamond scroll brooch, detachable cluster centre with three drop-shaped diamond cluster drops. Pearl and Diamond Necklace from the Queen’s Household Among the Silver Wedding gifts to Princess Christian was a pearl and diamond necklace, presented in a casket lined with electric blue fabric and accompanied by an illuminated album bound in white silk, ornamented with the Royal monogram and crown of the Prince and Princess embossed in silver. The title page read: “The jewel contained in this case was given to Her Royal Highness Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland, on her Silver Wedding day, July 5th 1891, by those members of Her Majesty’s household and other friends, whose names are inscribed in this book, the presentation being made by the committee and great officers of State.” There were about 312 subscribers, including the Mistress of the Robes (the Duchess of Buccleuch) and the Master of the Horse (the Duke of Portland). This necklace was privately presented to Princess Christian, as the subscribers wished her to wear it at her daughter Princess Louise’s (Marie Louise’s) wedding. County of Berks and Civic Gifts The gifts subscribed for by the county of Berks to Prince and Princess Christian on the occasion of their Silver Wedding – and to Princess Louise on the occasion of her marriage – were presented to their Royal Highnesses at Cumberland Lodge. The present to Prince and Princess Christian consisted of a magnificent set of solid silver dinner plates – 24 soup plates and 72 dinner plates – accompanied by a formal address and the names of all subscribers in album form. Prince and Princess Christian attended a special service at the Royal Chapel, Windsor Great Park, held in celebration of their Silver Wedding. The chapel was decorated with flowers and foliage and filled with a large congregation. At Windsor Guildhall, a double ceremonial was held: the presentation of a service of plate to Prince and Princess Christian as a Silver Wedding gift, and a diamond star to their daughter, Princess Louise, on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Aribert of Anhalt. Princess Louise remarked that she would always value the jewel as a souvenir of her English home. Prince Christian, in thanking the residents of Windsor and Eton, expressed that it had been a great satisfaction to himself and Princess Christian throughout their married life to identify themselves with the interests of all classes in the neighbourhood. Gifts from Queen Victoria The Silver Wedding gift from Queen Victoria, Helena’s mother, was a handsome diamond and gold bangle and a pair of silver lamps, presented to the Prince and Princess.
