Prinzessin Alice im Jahr 1942 im Regierungsgebäude in Ottawa, Lord Athlone später Earl of Athlone, war zu dieser Zeit General-Gouverneur von Kanada im Dienste der Krone.
Die Prinzessin steht vor dem Gemälde ihrer Großmutter, Königin Victoria.
Sie trug wahrscheinlich eines der Hochzeitsgeschenke von Königin Victoria an ihre Mutter, die Herzogin von Albany, ein Collier von Amethysten und Diamanten.
In der Hochzeits-Geschenkeliste aus dem Jahr 1882 ist eine Amethyst und Diamant-Halskette neben anderen Juwelen Geschenken der Königin, aufgeführt.
Aus der Times wissen wir, dass im Jahr 1866 Königin Victoria am Buckingham-Palast Hof hielt, man muss wissen die Königin lebte seit dem Tod Ihres Gatten zurückgezogen und trauerte. Deshalb ist es erwähnenswert und es wird wie folgt beschrieben: Die Königin trug ein schwarzes Seidenkleid mit einer Schleppe, geschmückt mit Krepp und Jet und einer Mary-Queen-of-Scots-Haube die mit großen Diamanten verziert war, daran ein langer Schleier. Ihre Majestät trug auch eine Amethyst-und Diamant-Halskette, mit ergänzender Brosche und Ohrringen.........

Der Aufenthaltsort der Juwelen mit den facettierten Amethysten ist unbekannt, ein dreiteiliger Anhänger in einem anderen Stil, in Diamantfassung und Diamantrosen, wurde 1984 von der Tochter von Prinzessin Alice, Lady May Abel-Smith auf einer Auktion verkauft.

In 1866 the Queen Victoria held court at Buckingham Palace and The Times informed: The Queen wore a black silk dress, with a train trimmed with crape and jet and a Mary Queen of Scots cap, with a long veil the cap ornamented with large diamonds. Her Majesty also wore an amethyst and diamond necklace, with brooch and earrings to correspond; the Ripon and the Star of the Order of the Garter and the Victoria and Albert Order.......
In the 2nd picture a close-up of the Princess with the amethyst demi-parure. A necklace of fife oval amethysts and a pear-shaped as pendant. An oval amethyst as brooch and matching earrings with pendants in amethyst.
The whereabouts of the amethyst jewels are unknown, a triple-cluster pendant in 
another style with diamond roses, was sold in 1984 from Lady May Abel-Smith on auction.
