The Diamond Jubilee Bracelet| Jewels of Queen Victoria | Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee presents and more than 450 addresses were exhibited at the Imperial Institute for the public.

One notable gift was that given by 591 of the Queen’s servants. The funds for the diamond, ruby and sapphire bracelet were raised by subscription.

A contemporary newspaper report described the design as ".very choice. On the round medallions were represented the rose, shamrock, and thistle, while the lotus flower represented the colonies. In oblong medallions were the figures "1837" and "1897" set in brilliants. The centre was composed of the Imperial Crown, resting on the sword and sceptre of State.

The bracelet was composed of the finest brilliants, with large rubies and sapphires at intervals. Representing red, white and blue, while the laurel leaves intermingled were intended to convey the idea of drawing the whole of the British Empire in bond of everlasting peace towards the Crown. The beautiful jewel was designed by her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Battenberg and manufactured by Messrs Rowlands and Frazer jewellers . . . to the Queen and the Prince of Wales. The bracelet was enclosed in a casket covered with pale blue velvet on the top of which in coned gold were the letters "V.R.I" in monogram surmounted by the Royal Crown, while at each corner, resting on small white velvet cushions were four Imperial Crowns, the casket resting on claw-and-ball feet also carved out of solid gold. Her Majesty was highly pleased with the token of the affection of her household and wore it at the State dinner on Monday night and last night. "

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wore the diamond jubilee bracelet on some occasions in her later years, one of which is shown above. She wore it along with Queen Victoria's Fringe Brooch, Queen Alexandra's pearl necklace and two pieces bequeathed to her by Margaret Greville: her Boucheron tiara and large diamond earrings both of which have been worn by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall and Her Majesty the Queen respectively.

The picture in the background shows Queen Victoria at her Diamond  Jubilee Garden Party on June 28 1897 with her daughter-in-law the Princess of Wales. Alexandra took the Queen's hand in hers and pressed them to comfort the old lady as she was overcome with  emotion. Surprised and touched at the devotion of her subjects, she had tears in her eyes.
