Duchess Victoria Adelaide of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha | Royal Wedding Tiara Diamond Marriage Presents and Gifts | Royal Jewel History

THE COBURG ROYAL WEDDING.

The bride is a special favourite of the German Empress, who is a-daughter of another branch of the Holstein family. Prince Arthur of Connaught will represent King Edward VT. at the marriage OF the Kaiser's nephew. Prince Arthur left London yesterday morning for Gernany with Prince, Alexander of Teck, the Duke of Saxe-Coburg's - brother-in-law, and the. Earl - of Clarendon, who was specially attached to the suite on behalf of the King. They joined Prince Arthur at Victoria Station, and left by the 9.45 boat express for Queenborough, en routed for Flushing.

The looms of the world have contributed their treasures to make the bride's trousseau one of the wonders of the world of Society. An English tailor in London has had the honour of fashioning some of the plainer kinds for the pretty fiancee. He has worked for the Duchess of Albany for years. and did grand things for Princess Alexander of Teck, supplying moat of her trousseau gowns.

One magnificent gown is of ivory satin most exquisitely embroidered in silk roses, decorated with jewels. This embroidery is on the front panel of the dress, and makes a dado to the skirt. The bodice is similarly decorated.
Carrickmacross lace, the gift of the bridegroom, trimmed both skirt and bodice, a lovely creation. The bridal train is that worn by the Duchess of Albany, the bridegroom's mother, at her own wedding. It is white satin heavily embroidered in white and silver.

The civil marriage of Duke Charles Edward of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and the Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein - Sonderburg-Glücksburg took place at the Ducal castle of Gluckburg on Wednesday.
The ceremony was performed by Herr von Willich, Minister of State, and of the Grand Ducal House of Oldenburg, as the Grand Duke of Oldenburg s the head of the Glücksburg House. After the civil ceremony a procession was formed to the little Gothic Chapel of the Castle, where the reheous ceremony was to take place. The bridedressed in white silk, with a veil, led the way, walking between the Emperor William and her father. Duke Frederick Ferdinand.

The six bridesmaids followed, two dressed in white silk, two in red silk, and the remaining two in blue silk.

The bridegroom wore the handsome light blue and gold uniform of the 9th German Hussars. He also wore the ribbon of the Order of the Black Eagle which the Emperor conferred on him on his wedding-day. On either side of his Royal highness were his mother, the Duchess of Albany, and the German Empress.

Prince Arthur of Connaught escorted the Grand Duchess of Oldenburg. Other princely personages closed the procession. The _party passed up the aisle of the chapel, which wail lined by maids of honour and members of the Friedricius garde, in their quaint old uniforms. _ The altar was beautifully decorated with planta and fresh flowers. The ceremony was of the simlestcharaoter. The bride and bri degroom took up their places before the tar, while the congregation sang a hymn.

Pastor Sommerfeld, of Glecksburg, read the marriage servioe and delivered a short address. The wedding breakfast wall served in the Grand hall of the castle, which was hung with Gobelins tapestry, while the table was covered with masses of lilies of the valley. The bride's father proposed the toast of the newly-married pair, who left subsequently for Luisenbund, on their way to the castle of Greinberg, in Lower Austria, where the honeymoon will be spent. The State entry of the Duke and Duchess into Coburg has been fixed for Nov. 5. •

The Duke of Coburg, who is just over 21 years of age, is the posthumous son of the late Duke of Albany, and, therefore, nephew to the king. At the death of Duke Alfred, better known as the Duke of Edinburgh, in 1900, the succession passed to the Duke of Connaught. He, however, renounced his rights and those of his son, and the Dukedom therefore passed to the Duke of Albany's heir, Prince Charles Edward, then a schoolboy at Eton. Princess Victoria Adelaide will reach her 20th birthday on the last day of this year. She is a nieos of the German Empress.

The Duke of Saxe Coburg and Gotha, formaly the Duke of Albany, yesterday received a number deputations offering congratulations. Later the bridegroom and bride appeared on balcony of the Castle, and were greeted with great enthusiasm by torchlight procession of citizens. The town was illuminated. The civil marriage of the iDuke and Princess took place at the Ducal Castle here this morning.

The wedding presents of the King and Queen of England consisted costly furniture and a parure of Diamonds for the bride, see above in the picture probably the diamond parure.

The gift of the Prince and Princess of Wales is a silver cup,

The bride also received a gift of valuable diamonds from the Queen of the Netherlands. Queen Emma of the Netherlands sent personal ornaments.

The town of Glücksburg sent a beautiful carved crucifix of finished workmanship.

The bride's parents gave their daughter some magnificent jewels.

The wedding present to the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Victoria from the officers ot the Seaforth Highlanders, of which regiment his Royal highness is colonel-in-chief, was a silver group representing a Highlander resuming his king, who is being attacked by a stag, an incident connected with the regiment's history. The 2nd Seaforths, at Aldershot, celebrated the wedding on Wednesday by a parade in review order and trooping their thirdt "Assaye" colours. At the conclusion, led by Colonel Jameson, the battalion gave three cheers for their colonel-in-chief, and another for his bride, and their healths were drunk 11 all ranks at dinner, a general holiday following. The good wishes of the regiment were telegraphed to the Duke.
