Diese attraktiv und historisch wichtige Perlen Diamant-Tiara aus einer
Gold- und Perlen Basis.
Stéphanie de Beauharnais, niece of Empress Josephine and adopted
daughter of Napoleon I, married on 25 July 1806 Karl Ludwig, who became
Grand Duke of Baden in 1811, she was the first owner of this antique
pearl and diamond tiara and give it to her eldest daughter Princess
Gustav Wasa, Princess Luise of Baden.
The only child of Princess Luise of Sweden-Vasa was Queen Carola the
last Queen of Saxony.
AN ANTIQUE PEARL AND DIAMOND TIARA
Designed as a series of pearl and old-cut diamond arches to the fan-
shaped spacers and two-row pearl and engraved gold band (pearls untested),
circa 1830, lengthened to wear as a bandeau with gilt metal and imitation
pearl back section, 21.5 cm. wide
The tiara was converted to a bandeau in 1924 for Princess Maria José
of Savoy to wear at her first Court ball.
It's interesting to see how this tiara passed through generations...
from Stephanie Beauharnais to Queen Carola of Saxony (her maternal grandaughter
and a childless cousin of the Countess of Flanders, mother to King Albert
I) to Queen Marie Jose (grandaughter of the Countess of Flanders). Queen
Carola (the last "Vasa" princess, who might have even had
the remnants of the ancient Swedish collection and apparantly inherited
grand items from her mother's Napoleonic family too, in addition to
private pieces that would have come to her from being a reigning queen
of Saxony) probably left also other jewels that went to the Belgian
RF.
