bekannt.
1920 fand in Lausanne während sechs Tagen die Juwelenverstiegerung
der in Vevey gestorbenen Prinzessin Vera lobanow de Rostow, geborene
Prinzessin Dolgoruky statt.
fille de empereur Nicolas I.
à elle de présenter ces objets brillants et délicats;
côté, come des autrtes.
Magnificent three-row pearl necklace, composed of a hundred and seventy-one
pearls (weighing approximately two thousand grains) with a clasp,
composed of a large brilliant-cut diamond surrounded by eight white
brilliants, surrounded by six lilies of the valley in rose-cut diamonds.
The pearl necklace originally belonged to Marie Princess of Leuchtenberg
Beauharnais, daughter of emperor Nicolas I. In 1839, she married Maximilien
de Leuchtenberg and, in 1856, she married Grigory Stroganoff.
The highlight of the auction was this magnificent pearl collar,
Cartier auctioned it in 1920 for 554 000 Franc.
The marvelous collection of jewels of the princess Vera Lobanoff
de Rostoff, which caused the admiration of the artists and the amateurs
of beautiful stones, will be put on sale. This collection, unique
in its breadth, its variety, and the simplicity and the science with
which it was assembled, deserves a closer inspection. It is a testament
to the good taste of a woman who devoted her entire life to collecting
works of art.
The sale of these jewels will take place in January(1920), in Lausanne,
and will prove to amateurs the soundness of her instincts. Purchasers
will come from every corner of the earth.
The famous necklace of pink pearls, bought by Tsar Nicolas I for his
favorite daughter, the Grand-Duchess Marie, will be the highlight
of this amazing collection.
The princess would occasionally show these beautiful ornaments to
her close friends. She had a distinctive way of presenting these brilliant
and delicate objects; and the way in which she would draw the attention
to the beauty of the work of the goldsmith, and of the jeweler, proved
how well-developed her artistic sense was.
Prince Alexis Lobanoff de Rostoff was an artist at heart; he had
assembled the works of the best painters from the era of Catharine
II. He bequeathed this collection to the Tsar Alexandre III Museum,
where it occupies a whole room, which bears the name of the Lobanoff
princely family.
