The Duc d'Orleans, who gave his sister away, has presented her with a high diamond aigrette for the hair. We see in the above picture, Princess Louis of Orleans wearing a very important Diamond Aigrette with two wings in diamonds, in the center like a fontaine of diamonds in different sizes as array on very thin knifeback settings, from the Chaumet Archive.
Her mother also gave her a collection of old family jewels, including pearls and diamonds, probably the large brooch on her bottom, of three loops of diamond and two pear-shaped pearls and a button pearl in the center.
PRINCESS LOUISE'S WEDDING PRESENTS. To the disappointment of many, there will not be an exposition of the magnificent wedding presents received by Princess Louise of France and Prince Charles of Bourbon the day of their wedding. The reason for this is that the offerings of many of the Spanish and French relatives and friends have not been despatched to England, but remain at Madrid and Villamanrique. The articles of jewellery received from English Royalties alone fill several cases in Wood Norton. The bride's sisters, who are here for the marriage, brought their gifts with them, so they were able to present them personally.
The tiara, a aigrette, light and very precious, this jewelled accessory is named after the feathers that adorn it, that can be changed depending on the occasion and outfit. Less formal than the tiara, the aigrette nevertheless gives an air of celebration and lengthens the silhouette. The spanish infanta Louis, wore it with an costly mantilla, without the feathers. The mantilla is a traditional Spanish lace or silk veill worn over the head and shoulders, often over a high comb called a pineta.
Nothing is known about the whereabout, but probably later altered for a new jewel.
