November 2018 angeboten.

Queen Alexandrin's Imperial Russian wedding gift

The story of the "Russian Sapphire Tiara" begins in the spring of 1898, when Princess Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin married the Danish Prince Christian at Cannes.
In 1912, they succeeded as Queen Alexandrine and King Christian X of Denmark.

At their wedding in 1898, one of the many gifts was a choker collar that can also be worn as a bandeau or diadem
It was given to the future Queen of Denmark by Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia. The diadem was originally a so-called combination piece, in which the different parts could be used individually, as a collar, choker, brooch or diadem .

In 1933, the Danish royal couple presented this jewelery to their daughter-in-law, Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde, on the occasion of her wedding to Hereditary Prince Knud, in the chapel of Fredensborg Castle.

After the death of the hereditary princess in 1995, the diadem was passed on to her son Count Christian von Rosenborg and his family, where it remained until today.

"As a boy, I was less familiar with the ladies' jewelry, but my mother, Hereditary Princess Caroline Mathilde , received the jewelry as a wedding present from my grandmother and grandfather (her in-laws, King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine) Presented by the relatives of my grandmother and grandfather, Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra of Russia.

it is a Russian jewel with sapphires and diamonds, which my mother used both as a necklace and as a bandeau, as you can see in photos of her.
Later, my mother left the jewel in its present form as a bandeau, and I remember very well this Russian sapphire tiara ", says Ingolf Graf von Rosenborg (brother of the late Count Christian von Rosenborg).

The Russian sapphire bandeau is attributed to CE Bolin, St. Petersburg and consists of eight oval cut Ceylon sapphires with a total weight of 33 carats and numerous old cut diamonds totaling 53 carats. The jewelry is mounted in gold and silver. In the Rossiyski Gosudarstvenniy Istoricheskiy Arhiv (RGIA, the Russian State Historical Archive), a document of the Tsar about the editions could be assigned, which describes a similar sapphire jewelry.

The tiara will be offered by Rasmussen Auctioneers, in Copenhagen, for auction on November 30, 2018.

THE MARRIAGE OF PRINCE CHRISTIAN OF DENMARK.
The civil marriage of Prince Christian of Denmark and Princess Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin took place yesterday morning at the Villa Wenden, Cannes.
Besides many baskets of flowers and bouquets of great beauty sent by princely personages, the presents included a magnificent tortoise-shell fan, with initials in diamonds, given by the Prince and Princess of Wales, and a necklace of diamonds and sapphires from the Czar and Czarina.

At eleven o'clock M. Hibert, the mayor, reached the villa, and the formal declaration was read, the witnesses being, for Prince Christian, the Duke of Cumberland and Baron Blixen Pineske; and for Princess Alexandrine the Grand Duke Michael Nicholaievich Russia and Duke John Albert, Prince-Regent of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

The document having been signed, the mayor declared the bride and bridegroom to be man and wife and tendered them his congratulations.

The religious ceremony took place at half-past two, at the German Church, in the Boulevard Cannet. The weather was very bad indeed, rain falling incessantly, but the interior of the church was a beautiful sight, for seldom has a more brilliant gathering assembled at a wedding so far away from the homes of the bride and bridegroom.

The church was prettily but not elaborately decorated with palm leaves and roses. The ceremony was performed by Pastor Wolf, and the address he made to the young couple was quite one of the features of the day. Punctually at half-past two Prince Christian, with the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, and Prince Charles, his brother, who acted as best man, drove up to the church, and, being received at the door by Count Voss, immediately look up their places near the Communion table. Very shortly afterwards the bride arrived.
She was dressed in white satin, with a beautiful lace veil attached to her hair by a diamond brooch. In the bodice of her dress she wore a spray of orange-blossom, and in her hand she carried a bouquet of the same bloom.
The Prince and his bride start from Beaulieu to-day, on a tour to Genoa, Milan, and Naples. They will arrive at Schwerin on the morning of the 20th of May, when there will be five days' festivities in their honour. Copenhagen will be reached on the 25th of May.

Among the numerous gifts of the royal and imperial relatives were the following precious jewels and jewelry:

Prince Christian - Brooch in Diamonds and Rubies

Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin - Diadem with emeralds and a brooch with diamond and emerald

Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin - Necklace of Diamonds
