Diamond Star Brooch
On 03 Jul 1891, Prince and Princess Christian, Princess Victoria and Princess Louise of Schleswig-Holstein accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of Anhalt, Princes Aribert and Edward and Princess Alexandra of Anhalt arrived at Windsor Town Hall to receive gifts given by the inhabitants of Windsor and Eton in honour of Prince and Princess Christian’s silver wedding anniversary and Princess Louise’s marriage.
The Mayor made an address to which Prince Christian replied and the gifts were presented. Princess Louise’s gift was a diamond star which could be used as either a brooch or a hairpin. “The star is formed of 148 brilliants of the first water, and is enclosed in light blue velvet case, on which are stamped the initials of the bride and bridegroom.”
The diamond star with seven points is pictured above, was supplied by Messrs. Dyson and Sons of Windsor and later left to Princess Alice Duchess of Gloucester who sold it in 1975.
