Heidi Horten Important Jewels |The Sunrise Ruby - the world most expensive ruby|Cartier Diamond Ring| Royal Jewel History
The Sunrise Ruby holds a prestigious status as the world's most valuable ruby, most valuable colored gemstone, and most valuable non-diamond gemstone. This magnificent gemstone was initially found in Myanmar and was later named after a poem by the revered 13th-century Sufi poet, Rumi. The extremely rare 25.59 carats piece is from the private collection of the jewellery house Cartier.Weighing 25.59 carats, this Burmese "pigeon blood" ruby is mounted by Cartier and is flanked by two heptagonal diamonds that weigh 2.47 carats and 2.70 carats, respectively. The Sunrise Ruby is considered to be one of the rarest of all gemstones, with the Swiss Gemmological Institute describing it as a "unique treasure of nature" and praising its "well-proportioned cut, highly attractive color, and fine purity." The Gubelin Gem Lab in Zürich has also lauded the Sunrise Ruby, stating that "such a combination of characteristics is very rare in Burmese rubies of this size." The rarity of this gemstone is further highlighted by the fact that an industry expert with over 40 years of experience had never before seen a ruby of this caliber. According to a Gubelin grading report, the Sunrise Ruby is of Burmese origin, and its "vivid but saturated color, poetically referred to as pigeon blood red, is due to a combination of well-balanced trace elements in the stone, typical and characteristic for the finest rubies of Mogok." Given its rarity and beauty, it is no surprise that the Sunrise Ruby fetched a staggering sum and was sold for a world auction record of US$30.42 million at a Sotheby's auction in Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2015. The ruby was initially estimated to be worth between US$12 and 18 million before the auction, but it surpassed all expectations, with bidding lasting approximately seven minutes. The buyer, Mrs. Heidi Horten, was the proud owner of this exceptional gemstone. Heidi Horten wore the Sunrise Ruby Diamond Cartier Ring (see on top, with the pearls of Marie-Antoinette and the important pearl pendant, which will not sold, but on display at the Museum), in the year 2019, when the Landesorden in Gold, presented to her. After her death, it will offered now on auction, at Christies, Geneva in May 2023. Mrs Heidi Horten owned another spectacular Ruby, setted with a diamond cluster as ring, she wore it when the first exhibition of her Art Collection "WOW"was opened in Vienna.
