CARTIER Flower Tiara | BELGIUM Royal JEWELS - Princess Lilian de Rethy| Historic Jewels Reine de Belgique

The tiara is made by Cartier in 1938, in an Art Deco design used of baquette diamonds and brilliants, sprigs of diamonds,Leafs ,leaves-stems in baquettes, scrolls, with a central motiv of a Marguerite or Daisy with 23 diamond pedals and a large navette, that allowed the central flower to be removed and worn as a Brooch, probably made in platinum.

This Tiara was first loaned to the Madame Marguerite Lebrun, the wife of the French President, for a Gala Performance hosted by the British Royal Family at Covent Garden in 1939.

We know that Lilian de Rethy, already had this tiara in her possession in 1953, when her steph-daughter Princess Joséphine-Charlotter married Prince Jean of Luxemburg. On the wedding of Princess Joséphine-Charlotte wesee that Princess Lilian wore the center-piece of the tiara as hat-decoration.. She could not wear the Diademe of the Nine Provinces because she was no queen but at that time she was the first lady of Belgium so she had to have a big impressive tiara.

By the 1980s, the Princess de Réthy had altered the Cartier Flower Tiara to a more smaller, even piece, and according to Christophe Vachaudez in ‘Bijoux des Reines et Princesses de Belgique’, Vachaudez also states that the tiara was sold at Christie´s in an altered and thus unrecognizable form. The current location unknown.

However, it appears the original Tiara was copied for the hit series Bridgerton, for a tiara worn by Lady Danbury.
