Queen Fabiola of Belgium | The Royal Engagement Ring
....THE BELGIANS AND DONA FABIOLA DE MORA Y ARAGON, has a twin sister, six older brothers and sisters, and is the daughter of the late Don Gonzalo de Mora y Fernandez, Conde de Mora and Marques de Casa Riera, and of Dona Bianca d’Aragon, descendant of King Henry I of Navarre. King Baudouin gave Fabiola a ring set with a emerald and diamonds. Fabiola gave him cuff links with diamonds, received when she arrived in Brussels shortly after the announcement of the engagement. See in the picture above.
Until now, it was not publicly known which ring Queen Fabiola of Belgium received on the occasion of her engagement to King Baudouin of Belgium in 1960.
Archival photographs and contemporary sources confirm that King Baudouin presented Fabiola de Mora y Aragón with an emerald engagement ring, a choice both personal and symbolic. The ring is set in 18 carat yellow gold and centred with a mixed oval cut emerald of approximately 13.36 carats, flanked by two trillion cut diamonds with a combined weight of around 2.10 carats.
Fabiola, daughter of Don Gonzalo de Mora y Fernández, Conde de Mora, and Doña Blanca de Aragón, was warmly received by the Belgian public following the announcement of the engagement. The emerald ring became quietly associated with this pivotal moment, though it was rarely discussed in detail.
Today, this historic engagement ring has resurfaced on the art market and is currently offered by Ansorena.
The jewel is being sold from the estate of Queen Fabiola, whose jewellery was bequeathed to relatives and charitable institutions, now releasing selected pieces.In the picture we see also a gold chain bracelet and a gold coin bracelet which was very in fashion in this time, it's also in the auction.
