Sieben herrliche alte grosse Orient Perlen-Tropfen aus der Schatzkammer der Herzöge, wurde mit Diamanten gerahmt zu 7 Broschen gefertigt, sie können jedoch auch jeweils an 6 runden Perlen angehängt werden oder auf dem Rahmen zusammen als Perlen-Diamant Tiara aufgebaut werden. Die runden Perlen mit ihrem üppigen Diamantbesatz können auch einzeln getragen werden und wie im Entwurf jeweils mit einem Tropfen verbunden werden und bilden die Basis des Diadems.
Die Verbindungen sind versteckt angebracht und damit kein Fehler passiert sind alle Einzelteile nummeriert auf der Rückseite, so kann wie auf der Zeichnung die Tiara in 2 verschiedenen Höhen und Versionen zusammengestellt werden, ein sehr vielseitiges Juwel, mit prachtvollen, raren Perlen. Das Diadem ist in Silber und Gelbgold montiert um 1878 von R. & S. Garrard & Co gefertigt worden.

Das Diadem mit Diamanten und Brillanten war einst Teil des Besitzes der immens vermögenden Hannah Rothschild, die als sie Archibald Primrose den Earl of Rosebery (1847-1929), 1878 heiratete als reichste Erbin Englands galt. Sie war die einzige Tochter von Baron Mayer Amschel de Rothschild - von dem sie als er starb 2 Million £ erbte neben Liegenschaften,Buckinghamshire und enormen Schmuck.

Sie heiratete Archibald vier Jahre später, wurde somit Gräfin von Rosebery und kam in den Besitz eines großen Perlen und Diamant-Armbands mit passender Brosche und Ohrringen. Der Graf kaufte diese beiden Schmuckstücke zwei Tage vor der Hochzeit von Juwelier Hennell, wie im Rosebery Archiv aufgezeichnet ist.
Die Hochzeit fand am 20. März 1878 mit einer standesamtlichen Trauung statt, bei derZeremonie waren der Prinz von Wales und der Herzog von Cambridge anwesend. Die Braut trug ein Kleid im Prinzessinnen-Stil aus weißem Satin mit Brokatschleppe, einen Schleier aus Brüsseler Spitze mit Orangenblüten und "ein herrliches Paar Diamant und Perlen Ohrringe."


Nach ihrem frühen Tod im Jahre 1891 mit nur 39 Jahren, lagen ihre Juwelen ungetragen beim trauernden Ehemann. Fast zwanzig Jahre später entschied der Earl, Hannah's Juwelen unter ihren vier Kindern zu teilen, als sein ältester Sohn und Erbe Harry Primrose, Lord Dalmeny, Lady Dorothy Alice Margaret Grosvenor heiratete. Das Diadem erhielt die Braut von ihrem zukünftigen Schwiegervater als Geschenk. Die Rubine von Hannah Countess Rosebery erhielt ihre Tochter Mary Crewe - danach Ihre Enkelin - die Herzogin von Roxburghe.

Die New York Times berichtete am 18. April 1909 über den Schmuck, Diamanten und Juwelen zur Hochzeit:

"Selten kommt eine Braut in den Besitz eines solchen großartigen Erbes an Familienschmuck, wie Miss Dorothy Grosvenor mit der bedeutenden Sammlung von Schmuck und Juwelen, der Lady Rosebery, die fast zwanzig Jahren ungetragen im Safe lag. Eine umfangreiche Anzahl von Paruren, Diademe, Colliers, Armbänder, Broschen, Anhänger, Ohrringe und Spangen mit Diamanten besetzt und mit Perlen bestückt, bilden eine Sammlung von ausreichender Menge und Qualität, die leicht zur Krönung für ein Dutzend Königinnen reicht.
Ein Diadem als Halbkreis mit Perlen so groß wie Walnüsse besetzt mit 150 Diamanten in sehr guter Reinheit. Dieser wunderschöne Kopfschmuck ist wandelbar in eine Halskette, mit der Möglichkeit, die sieben prächtigen Diamant Anhänger daran zu befestigen, jeweils einer birnenförmigen Perle als Mittelpunkt.
Zu diesen Perlen-Diamant Tropfen gibt ist ein Paar passende Ohrringe über zwei und einen halben Zoll in der Länge.
Die Kollektion umfasst auch eine Kette aus drei Girlanden großer Diamanten die an den Seiten des Halses von Diamant Primeln zusammengefasst werden - (siehe unten den Halsschmucks des Models im rosa Kleid, die Blütenohrringe sind ebenfalls beschrieben).
Das Diadem en suite ist ebenfalls aus Diamanten dazu noch ein Paar Diamant Primelblüten Ohrringe, eine große Diamant Korsage mit Primeln als Ornament und zwei schwere Armbänder, eines mit verschlungenen Herzen und das andere parallele Reihen von großen Diamanten.
Eine Rose aus Diamanten mit Diamant Stängel und Blattwerk, etwa zehn Inches, ca 25cm in der Länge, war eine weiterer Gabe von Lord Rosebery an seine Schwiegertochter.
Es gab auch einen Saphir von der Größe eines halben Dollars, mit dreifach mit Diamanten gefasst und eine f ünfreihige Kette mit 350 Perlen. Es gab Armbänder und Broschen für alle im Kopf-Hals Schmuck Spiel und Lord Rosebery weitere seiner königlichen Angebot mit einem ausgezeichneten Paar Diamant-Ohrringe von modernen Ambiente als die anderen Stücke ergänzt. "
Die Juwelen der Familie wurden innerhalb der Nachfahren vererbt, die Rosebery Perlen wurde schliesslich Teil der Westminster-Sammlung. Zum ersten Mal seit ihrer Entstehung vor 140 Jahren werden die Schmuckstücke nun im Juni 2011 zum Verkauf in London bei Christie's angeboten.

Also in the posession of the family, from the vault:a mid-victorian Pearls and Diamond Tiara, the 7 drop pearls, with diamond borders form 7 brooches at pleasure.

This Victorian tiara was among the most important jewels owned by Hannah Primrose, a socially and politically active heiress whose husband Archibald Philip Primrose, Earl of Rosebery would eventually become prime minister. She was the only daughter and heiress of Baron Meyer de Rothschild, and Hannah reputedly became the country's richest woman when her father died in 1874, leaving her the then immense sum of £2 million, properties including a turreted mansion in Buckinghamshire, and a magnificent collection of jewels and art

She married Archibald four years later, at which point she acquired the title Countess of Rosebery, along with a large pearl and diamond bracelet with brooch and earrings.

The Earl purchased the jewels two days before the wedding from the jeweller Hennell, which is recorded in the Rosebery Archives. The wedding took place on 20th March 1878, with a civil marriage at ten in the morning and a Church of England service at 11:30 a.m. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were present at the ceremony. The bride wore a princess-style gown of white satin with a brocaded train, a veil of Brussels lace with orange blossoms and “a lustrous pair of diamond and pearl earrings.”


After her early death in 1891 at the age of 39, her jewels were left undisturbed by her grieving husband. Nearly twenty years later, the Earl decided to divide Hannah’s jewels among her four children as his eldest son and heir Harry Primrose, Lord Dalmeny, was marrying Lady Dorothy Alice Margaret Grosvenor.

Her daughter the Lady Margaret Primrose got the famous rubies of her mother*.

The tiara with pearls and diamonds was one of the magnificent jewels given to the bride by her future father-in-law.

The New York Times reported on 18th April 1909 about the jewels and wedding presents:

"Rarely does a bride come into the possession of such a magnificent inheritance of family jewels as did Miss Dorothy Grosvenor, chief in importance was the collection of jewels that which belonged to the late Lady Rosebery, and which had lain unworn in their cases for nearly twenty years.

Parures, tiaras, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, pendants, earrings and clasps composed of diamonds of great size and of pearls formed a collection of sufficient quantity and quality to make the coronation ornaments for a dozen Queens.

One tiara formed of a semi-circle of pearls as big as walnuts contained about 150 diamonds of the first water.
This gorgeous headdress is convertible into a necklace, to which may be fitted seven magnificent diamonds pendants, each one centred with a pear-shaped pearl. With these drops is a pair of earrings to match, which measure about two and a half inches in length.
The collection includes a necklace of a three-row festoon of huge diamonds caught into diamond primroses at the sides of the neck.
The tiara en suite is a solid mass of similar gems and to complete this particular set of jewels there is a pair of diamond primrose earrings, a large diamond primrose corsage ornament, and two heavy bracelets, one formed of linked hearts and the other of parallel rows of large diamonds.

A rose formed of diamonds with diamond stems and foliage, measuring about ten inches in length, was another of Lord Rosebery's gifts to his daughter-in-law.

There was also a sapphire as big as a half dollar, surrounded with a triple circlet of diamonds and a five-row necklace containing 350 pearls of great price.
There were bracelets and brooches to match all the head and neck ornaments and Lord Rosebery further supplemented his regal offering with a superb pair of diamond earrings of more modern setting than the other pieces."


The Victorians prized versatility in their jewellery, of which the Rosebery tiara is an excellent example. The tiara consists “of a series of six bouton-shaped natural pearls and old-cut diamond clusters, interspersed by [seven] diamond florettes…” and is accompanied by seven pear-shaped pearl and diamond drops. The drops, which come with their fittings, can be mounted atop the diamond florette motifs to create a coronet. Each of the pearl and diamond clusters can be detached from the tiara band to form brooches to which the pendants can be attached. The fittings are all numbered, so that no mistake could occur in arranging the jewels. The tiara is mounted in silver and yellow gold, and is circa 1878 in a fitted case from R. & S. Garrard & Co.

The jewels descended through various branches of the family and the Rosebery pearls became part of the Westminster collection. For the first time since their creation 140 years ago, the jewels were offered for sale in June 2011 in London by Christie’s.

*On April 20th, 1899 Lady Margaret Primrose married Robert Crew-Milnes, the first and last Marquess of Crewe, in Westminster Abbey. The Times of that day reported that "among those present at the abbey were 600 invited guests, all wearing wedding favors(sic) of marguerites and primroses, representing the brides name". Even her wedding dress was embroidered with diamond primroses.
The ruby necklace and the pair of ruby earrings, were most probably gifted by the Earl and Countess of Rosebery to their daughter, the Marchioness of Crewe and thence by decent to her daughter, Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe.

La familia también posee esta tiara de 7 perlas lágrima rodeadas por diamantes, que pueden desmontarse para formar siete broches y una tiara tipo bandeu de perlas circulares más modesta. Las perlas y los diamantes se hallan montados en un soporte de oro y fue creada en 1860 por Garrard Co.
