Clementine of Orleans, Duchess August of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary,Perles Broches | Joyaux de Couronne France Diamants, Perles et Pierreries provenant de la Collection des Joyaux de la Couronne Princess Clementine of Orleans | Brooches Brilliants & Pearls | French Crown Jewels Princess Clementine of Orleans, Duchess August of Saxe-Coburg-and-Gotha, was the youngest daughter of Louis-Philippe, King of the French from 1830 to 1848 and Queen Marie-Amelie. In the picture above from the year 1889, she wears one of the four shoulder brooches of two circular elements each with a large pearl at the centre which is surrounded by eight large, cushion-shape diamonds, as stomacher at her bodice. Each element is flanked by a small volute with a pearl drop. The upper part has larger stones, while the smaller lower part has larger pearl drops. Both parts can be separated and worn as individual brooches. These we could see in the lower part which is the back of the brooch; it gives us an impression of the versatility. Princess Clementine, who was wealthy and the mother of five children, had Princess Louise of Belgiumas her daughter-in-law. Both possessed an exquisite taste in jewels. However, Princess Clementine gave most of her jewellery to her youngest son "Foxi" Ferdinand of Bulgaria. We know that, because in the book Ferdinand of Bulgaria it was noted: "In the summer of 1892 there was a notable sight in the Bavarian city of Munich. The richest goldsmith of the city displayed in his window a crown, sceptre, orb and sword, which he had made to the order of the Prince of Bulgaria. The rich jewels with which the regalia were decked the family gems of the Princess Clementine, who had presented them to her pet son, in anticipation of the recognition by the Powers which both fondly believed to be imminent." "But the anticipation was not realized and Ferdinand had not even the money to pay the goldsmith for his work. A lawsuit was initiated against him and at the same time the aggrieved tradesman displayed the jewels in his shop window, where they drew a daily crowd. To stop the scandal the Princess Clementine stepped in and footed the bill; and the jewels were stored at her Ebenthal Place in Austria, until such time as they should be needed-not, as a matter of fact until after her death. In different German newspaper it was reported that the dispute was over paying the artist who prepared the sketches for the regalia The crowning was in 1908 and the pearl brooch was seen again, when the daughter of Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria, Princess Nadeshda>>wed the Duke of Wuerttemberg.. Since 2015 one of the important pearl- and diamond brooches was sold by the Roxbourghs and is on display in the Louvre. Prinzessin Clementine von Orleans | Schulterbroschen aus Perlen und Brillanten der französchen Kronjuwelen Prinzessin Clementine die französiche Königstochter, verheiratet mit Herzog August von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha aus der Linie Kohary. Die zweiteilige Schulterbrosche bestehend aus je einem runden Teil mit einer grossen runden Perle im Zentrum, die umgeben ist von acht großen kissenförmigen Brillanten. Seitlich schwingt jeweils eine kleine Volute aus, an der ein Perlentropfen hängt. Die Broschen wurde 1853 von Francois Kramer aus Gold und Silber hergestellt, die Brosche im Fordergrund ist in einer Grösse von 10cm hoch und 5cm Breite gefertigt. Der obere Teil ist entsprechend seiner zentralen Perle größer dimensioniert und von grösseren Brilllanten umgeben als der untere, jedoch ist das Verhältnis der anhängenden Perltropfen gerade umgekehrt. Beide Teile lassen sich trennen und als einzelne Broschen tragen, zu sehen im unteren Teil, der Rückseite der Brosche mit den Möglichkeiten die Perlen und Anhänger mittels Ringen und Ösen, ein und auszuhängen. Zar Ferdinand I., seit 1887 Erbprinz von Bulgarien. Fürst Ferdinands Traum von einer Königskrone war vor 1898 so lebhaft, dass er, bei einem Münchener Juwelier eine königliche Krone bestellte. Und zwar in der Art, daß Prinzessin Klementine ihrem reichen Juwelenschatz die Steine und der Juwelier die Fassung noch einer ihm gegebenen genauen Zeichnung zu liefern hätte. Der Juwelier die Zeichnung aus Sofia erhielt, konnte die aus dem Grunde nicht benutzt werden, weil der Fürst im letzten Augenblicke derartige Stiländerungen vornahm, daß eine neue Zeichnung angefertigt werden mußte, die nunmehr ein Münchener Maler herstellte. Die erste Zeichnung erfuhr in Sophia derartige Aenderungen, dass ein Münchener Maler eine neue Zeichnung herstellen musste. Die Zeichnung wurde nach Sophia übermittelt, kam aber bis zum heutigen Tage nicht wieder. Auf wiederholte Anfragen kam endlich der Bescheid, dass die politische Situation es erheische, vorläufig von der Anfertigung einer Krone Abstand zu nehmen. Natürlich reichte der Maler die Rechnung für die gelieferte Zeichnung ein, aber die bulgarische Cabinetscassa verweigerte die Bezahlung mit dem Bemerken: Die Zeichnung wird bezahlt, wenn die bulgarische Krone angefertigt wird. Der Maler will jedoch so lange nicht warten, und überreichte die Civilklage gegen den Fürsten Ferdinand, über welche in den nächsten Tagen in München verhandelt werden wird. Zar Ferdinand I. war seit 1887 Fürst von Bulgarien erst später 1908 kam dann doch die geplante Krönung zum Zaren, zustande. Die Brosche wurde von Herzogin Clementine an ihre Enkeltochter weitergegeben, als Prinzessin Nadeshda von Bulgarien den Herzog von Württemberg heiratete, trug sie die historische Brosche als Brautschmuck. Das Fleur de Lys Diadem für die Fürstin wurde in Wien von Köchert ausgeführt wie auch die kleine Krone.
