At the Silver Wedding celebrations of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Hendrik in 1926, their daughter, Crown Princess Juliana, aged sixteen, wore a diamond rivière together with an exceptionally delicate, long diamond ornament. Its intricate design featured graceful bows, finely worked decorative elements and a pendant extending down the front of her gown.
Some thirty years later, a remarkably similar diamond ornament appeared on the young Crown Princess Beatrix, Princess of Orange, worn with the historic Laurel Leaf Diamond Bandeau Tiara. The jewel appears to have been arranged differently, with its decorative elements positioned much higher at the neckline.
The comparison raises the intriguing possibility that this exquisite piece of diamond jewellery was passed from mother to daughter, although its precise identity and subsequent history remain to be established.
