When Princess Margaret of Connaught married the Crown Prince of Sweden in the year 1905 she got a great array of jewel presents.
The Duchess of Connaught's important historic and famous turquoise collection, probably left to her daughter the Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden.
An oval turquoise and diamond cluster brooch and drop shaped pendant, and turquoise and diamond cluster earrings once belonged to Empress Catherine II of Russia, also known as Catherine the Great, and inherited through Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia, the Duchess of Connaught, Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden and Queen Ingrid left to Queen Margarete of Denmark. She presented it to her daughter-in-law, crown princess Mary, on their 50th birthday.
In the inventory of Crown Princess Margareta’s jewels. There are «4 earrings, 2 with turquoises, 2 with cat’s eyes», valued at 2,000 crowns. Two of these might possibly be the ones now worn by the Queen above,, although there is no mention of diamonds. However, the value, which can be compares to the turquoise bandeau’s value of 900 crowns, suggests the presence of more than just turquoises and cat’s eyes.
There is a «brooch and neck ornament with 1 large turquoise and brilliants» valued at 7,000 crowns, but this contains only one large turquoise, while the stomacher now has two large and four smaller turquoises, see in the picture, the Queen of Denmark wore it as turquoise pendant or as turquoise stomacher.
However, the inventory of the jewels of Margareta’s mother-in-law, Queen Victoria of Sweden, contains «1 brooch, gold, brilliants, turquoise with attached pendant of brilliants and turquoise», valued at 2,000 crowns.
