The
Prince Albert Sapphire Brooch - The wedding present to Queen Victoria
in 1840. The large oblong sapphire surrounded by twelve round diamonds, was
given to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. It was
the day before their wedding and she noted in her diary that, after a
religious service in the Bow Room "dearest Albert" come upstairs to her
sitting room and offering her four fans and a "beautiful sapphire and
diamond brooch". For their wedding in the chapel Royal she wore it with
her Turkish diamond necklace and earrings. It is considered a Crown
piece of jewellery and held in trust for all future Queen of Great
Britain.
