Diamond Dahlia Brooch Dr Williamson| Princess Margaret of England Great Britain Countess Snowdon| Royal Jewel History
In 1956, Princess Margaret toured East Africa and visited Dr. T. J. Williamson's diamond mine in Tanganyika (now Tanzania). This diamond brooch was presented to her to commemorate her visit at Mwadui. The Colonial Secretary Mr Lennox-Boyd brought the brooch with him to Clarence House in London.
The brooch is "...in the shape of a dahlia. A large central round diamond is surmounted by two rows of claw-set stones from which diamond pavé set leaves grow. The stalk is in baguette diamonds."
"The brooch to be presented to Princess Margaret is of floral design and has as its centre a high-quality blue-white diamond originally 16 carats but cut to five. Round it are set about 250 stones of one carat size and smaller ones. A Bond Street firm made seven dlifferent designs for the brooch. The stones were sent to it for setting about two weeks ago."
