On April 26 in 1923, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, became the bride of the Duke of York.

Her wedding gown was of ivory chiffon moiré, it's slim, straight lines and bands of silver lamé embroidered with seed pearls suggesting a mediaval Italian robe. From the waist falls a train of moiré and from the shoulders floats a mist of tulle edged with ivory Nottingham lace. A length of rare old lace, lent by Her Majesty the Queen borders the veil, which is held by a chaplet of leaves. The bride wore outside an ermine cape a present from the King.

List of jewels given to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother

From the Duke of York :
- a diamond and pearl necklace with a greek key design and seven large V-shaped festoon drops above in the picture later rebuilt in the papyrus-tiara
- a large diamond cluster corsage brooch in a floral design with three dangling pendants from a V-shaped platinum chain
- a diamond brooch, replica of his naval cap badge
- a necklace of diamonds and pearls with pendant (brooch) to match

From the King Georg V:
- an antique parure of pale Persian turquoises and diamonds consisting of a high oval tiara, long necklace with "a number of graduated pendant drops", matching pendant earrings, a large square brooch and hair ornaments
- a diamond bar brooch with a central stone
- a ring
- a pendant of sapphire and diamonds - together with the Queen

From Queen Mary :
- a sunburst diamond brooch pendant, the stones being set in the form of a sunburst as an engagement gift>>
- a suite of sapphires and diamonds consisting of a sapphire and diamond necklace, corsage brooch, a bracelet>>
- a diamond scroll corsage brooch
- a bracelet to match the brooch >>
- all-diamond Rose of York brooch (a wedding present to Princess May in 1893)>>
- a cluster brooch with an oval sapphire
- a half-hoop ring with three collet diamonds

From her Father, the Earl of Strathmore:
- a diamond Bandeau of Five Roses with Diamond Sprays between, forming separat Brooches from Catchpole and Williams- called the Strathmore-Bandeau-Tiara in "form of wild roses mounted in gold and set with rose diamonds in silver, orginally interchangable with five single-collet sapphires" with two frames,one invisible.
- a rope necklace of pearls and diamonds

From her mother, the Countess of Strathmore:
- a pearl and diamond platinum sautoir necklace, emerald and diamond tassel and pearl fringe, by Catchpole & Williams>>
- a pearl and diamond bracelet to match

“Prior to the York’s wedding at Westminster Abbey on 26 April many of the gifts were placed on view in large glass cases in the picture gallery on the first floor of Buckingham Palace.
On 24 April the King and Queen gave an evening reception for six hundred family friends who were able to inspect the presents. As previously done in 1863 and 1893, the newspapers ran daily lists of who had given what.”
