Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons the future Duchess of York was presented with magnificent gifts for her wedding in 1923, including this Art deco Pendant Brooch.
In May 1923 the press noted:
Duchess of York has set a pretty fashion in the adoption of special jewellery for day-time wear.
This takes the form of a pendant of square-shaped crystal, outlined with an almost invisible rim of onyx set round with rhine-stones, and suspended by an ornamental loop to match. This pendant hangs from a black moire ribbon linked with crystal beads on a platinum chain.
One of the novelty presents received by the Royal bride is one of the new purses which consiet of a round disc of black moire rimmed all round with rhine-stones, finished off with an onyx and rhine-stone clasp, and attached to an onyx slave bangle.
The press was not right, there was diamonds around and the pendant could be worne also as clasp of the very much in fashion little disc bags on a bangle.
Poor of jewels for representative events, the Duchess of York wore it as brooch on her head, first pictured when she visit Australia on the Royal Tour in year 1927.
After the death of Elizabeth the Queen Mother, this carved rock crystal brooch was worn from Camilla Duchess Cornwall, frequently on different royal occassion, as well as on the 60th reign jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. and opening parliament.
Thank you to dear Frank for the tipp of the details in the press note which you found!
