Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy is a member of the British royal family.
Alexandra was born to Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. She is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, and since her mother was a first cousin of the queen's husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, she was also his first cousin once removed. Alexandra is the widow of businessman Sir Angus Ogilvy.
One of her wedding gifts was a parure of diamond flowers with pearls and changeable with sapphires and turquoises. The Ogilvy diamond flower parure consisted a diamond flower tiara, and a matching necklace. The flowers are detachable and also used as head ornaments.
The tiara consists of nine diamond and pearl flowers connected by diamond ribbons. The seven larger flowers were originally worn as a small bandeau base and the two smallest flowers originally brooches worn by Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. The bandeau was probably from Princess Katherina of Greece, Lady Katherine Brandram,( last seen on her at the Wedding at Athens, Duchess Marinas cousin, probably sold it to the Kents).
When Princess Alexandra became engaged to the Hon. Angus Ogilvy in 1962, Collingwood transformed the small elements (as well as the large diamond stars and some 30th fashionable jewels from the Duchess) into the tiara we see today. She wore it the first time on her pre-wedding ball at Windsor Castle in April 1963,which was given by the Queen Elizabeth II, for Princess Alexandra. Over 60 members of Europen royal families, 2000 guests are invited as ball of the year.
Princess Katherine's bandeau; Princess Katherine of Greece and Denmark wife of Major Richard Campbell Andrew Brandram, was the third daughter and youngest child of King Constantine I of Greece and Sophia of Prussia. Katherine was born on 4 May 1913 in the Royal Palace in Athens, a few weeks after her paternal grandfather, King George I of Greece, was assassinated.
She was baptised on 14 June 1913. Her godparents were Olga Constantinovna of Russia (the Dowager Queen of Greece, her paternal grandmother), Alexandra of Denmark (the Dowager Queen of the United Kingdom, her paternal grandfather's sister and her maternal grandmother's sister-in-law), George V (the King of the United Kingdom, her paternal grandfather's nephew and her maternal grandmother's nephew), Wilhelm II, German Emperor (her maternal uncle).
Katherine had five siblings – three brothers (George, Alexander and Paul, each of whom would become King of the Hellenes) and two sisters (Princess Helen, who married Crown Prince Carol of Romania, and Princess Irene who married Prince Aimone of Savoy, Duke of Spoleto). At three years of age, she and her mother were trapped in Tatoi Palace, outside Athens, when a fire broke out. The Queen, carrying her, managed to escape in time.Princess Katherine is picture in the three smaller picture of the right side above.
