Designed as a graduated sequence of foliate arcs and flowers, set throughout with circular-cut diamonds, each arc crested with a larger circular-cut diamond finial, inner length approximately 418mm.

Marchioness and Marquess of Linlithgow, in the County of Linlithgow or West Lothian, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 23 October 1902 for John Hope, 7th Earl of Hopetoun.

This branch of the Hope family descends from Sir Charles Hope, grandson of Sir James Hope, sixth son of Sir Thomas Hope, 1st Baronet, of Craighall (see Hope baronets). In 1703 he was created Lord Hope, Viscount Aithrie and Earl of Hopetoun in the Peerage of Scotland, with remainder to the heirs male and female of his body. He later served as Lord Lieutenant of Linlithgowshire and as Governor of the Bank of Scotland. Lord Hopetoun married Lady Henrietta, only surviving daughter of William Johnstone, 1st Marquess of Annandale (died 1721). He was succeeded by his eldest son, the second Earl. In 1763 he succeeded his kinsman as fourth Baronet, of Kirkliston (see Hope baronets for earlier history of this title).

The seventh Earl was a prominent colonial administrator and Conservative politician and served as Governor of Victoria, as the first Governor-General of Australia and as Secretary of State for Scotland. In 1902 he was created Marquess of Linlithgow, in the County of Linlithgow or West Lothian. His son, the second Marquess, was also a politician and served as Viceroy of India from 1936 to 1943. Above his wife Lady Linlithgow - Vicereine of India, wearing the Hopetoun Diamond Tiara in 1936.

The Hopetoun Diamond Arches and flower tiara was worn frequently at the opening of Parliament in the year 1922; and at the coronations

His sister Lady Mary Hope was Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess of Kent.

THE LINLITHGOW WEDDING. CHARMING CEREMONY:

The Marquess of Linlithgow married yesterday at St. Margaret's, Westminster, Miss Doreen Milner, younger daughter of the Right Hon. Sir Frederick Milner.. As the bride entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away, she was met by her nine bridesmaids and her long train was carried by little Master Guy Sitwell, attired in a Charles I. costume of white satin with a lace collar.

The bridesmaids were • Lady Mary Hope, the bridegroom's sister, Lady Victoria Cavendish Bentinck, the Hon. Phyllis Goschen, the Hon. Winifred Douglas Pennant, Miss Phyllis Combe, Miss Viola Beckett, Miss Hood, Miss Kathleen Gretton, and Miss Diana York, who assisted Master Sitwell as train-bearer. The elder bridesmaids wore picturesque dresses of soft white chiffon over satin, with panels of rich pearl embroidery and blue sashes finishing the high waists, with hats in the same colouring. And the younger ones had Charles I. frocks of pale blue satin, with lace collars and caps to match. A pretty jewelled anchor, which is the Linlithow´s family crest was Lord Linlithgow´s gift to each bridesmaid.

The bride wore a gown of white and silver brocade, opening to show an underdress of old Venetian lace. The bodice was of the same lace, which was the gift of the Duchess of Portland, and was trimmed with handsome pearl embroidery, and beneath a chaplet of bay leaves and a small cluster of orange-blossom fell a long plain tulle veil, bordered. with silver thread. Later in the day the Marquees and Marchioness of Linlithgow left for Paris where they will stay for a week.

Afterwards they will leave for Melbourne where Lord Linlithgow is to unveil a memorial of his father erected by the Commonwealth of Australia, returning in time for Lord Linlithgow's birthday celebrations at Hopetoun. The Duke of Teck was among the guests seen at, the church. The Duchess of Portland arrived with son and her bridesmaid daughter, followed by the Duke of Portland, with the Marquess of Titchbeld. The Duchess of Buccleuch wore a heliotrope tulle bonnet and sable furs with a velvet dress; the Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos was in black and steel. The Dowager Marchioness of Linlithgow brought a small bridesmaid, and also present were the Marchioness of Exeter, the Earl and Countess of Erroll, the Countess of Cassini', Marchioness Camden, the Countess of Kilmorey, the Earl and Countess of Dalhousie, Viscountess Dalrymple, Lady Dorothea Hope, Lady Savile, Louisa Lady Vivian with Lady Worsley, Frances Lady De L'Isle and Dudley, Lady Swansea, Lord Henry Neville , Lord Brassey, Erelyn Lady Alington and Lady Ida Sitwell, among many others.

The numeroul wedding presents:

The King and Queen sent a large silver loving cup,
Queen Alexandra gave the bride a pink enamel watch and chain, and from
Princess Victoria she received a diamond brooch: from the
Princess Royal and the Duke of Fife a diamond bow with turquoises and a silver cake basket and from
Princess Maud a ruby and pearl brooch.

Lord Linlithgow has given his bride a quantity of beautiful jewellery, including a diamond tiara, a diamond riviere, long pearl necklace with pearl and diamond drops, an emerald and diamond ring, a sapphire and diamond ring and a threestrand seed pearl and emerald chain - besides the family jewels.

Among the many other presents received by the bride and bridegroom were — From the
Duke and Duchess of Portland an opal antique diamond necklace: the Duchess of Portland, some Venetian lace; from the
Duke and Duchess of Sutherland a diamond brooch;
Lord Grandhorp an emerald and diamond ring;
Mon. T. Brascy, a diamond-pendant; from the
Marchioness of Linlithgow a large diamond brooch and hair ornament; the Marquess and Marchioness of Graham, a bell-push: the
Countess of Shaftesbury grey enamel and pearl locket;
Lord and Lady Savile, a ruby and diamond brooch;
Mrs Waldorf Astor, diamond safety pin brooch; the
Marquis of Anglesey, cigarette case studded with diamonds and rubies;
Winifred Countess of Arran a necklace of amber beads;
Lady Mary Hope a diamond and enamel brooch;

while Sir Frederick Milner has given his daughter an Empire collar of diamonds, a diamond ruby brooch, a jewelled stomacher which belonged to Mary Queen Scots, and several jewelled rings.

PRESENTS FROM VILLAGERS. The marriage gifts were handed over the Marquis Linlithgow behalf the villagers presents consisted of wedding-ring and keeper, ring made from gold gathered and visiting card tray from silver extracted found lead got- in the Lead hills mines. ..
