A beautiful headdress is the tiara of Lady Decies, nee Miss Vivien Gould, which was one of her wedding presents, and has only recently been sent over from America to await her arrival in England at the end of her honeymoon.
...shape of the marriage of one of its richest debutantes, Miss Vivien Gould, with Lord Decies. I hear, by the way, that the new Lady Decies will bring a healthy selection of the famous Gould pearls to England to wear at the coronation...."
LORD DECIES' WEDDING In the year 1911 - Lord Decies and Vivian Gould
As stated in THE AMERICAN REGISTER some weeks ago, the marriage of Lord Decies and Miss Vivien Gould, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gould, will take place in New York on Tuesday next at St. Bartholoniew's Church, where the bride's sister, Miss Marjorie Gould, was married last April to Mr. Anthony Gould, jun.
Miss Gould, who is an accomplished horsewoman, met Lord Decies, who is much her senior, when he went to New York with the British Army competitors at the great horse show there.
The ceremony will be characterised by the same splendid simplicity as marked the earlier wedding, Mr. and Mrs. George Gould having a strong dislike of unnecessary display and publicity. After a short honeymoon in the West, Lord and Lady Decies will leave for London,. where the young bride will be one of the most interesting figures of the brilliant Coronation season.
Many friends of the couple in this country have gone over to New York to attend the wedding, including Princess Hatzfeldt, the Dowager Lady Decies, the Hon. Robert Beresford, and Lieut.-Col. and the Hon. Mrs. George Wilkinson. Lord Camoys, and Captain Edward Lumb.
The Marquis and Marchioness of Breadalbane have sent a set of mother-of-pearl, gold, and platinum sleeve-links and waistcoat buttons, and presents have also been received from the Marquis and Marchioness of Waterford, the Earl and Countess of Fingalt, Lord and Lady Vivian, Major- General Sir Hugh McCalmont, Sir Charles and Lady Ross, and the officers of the 7th Hussars.
Miss Helen Vivien Gould, daughter of Mr. George J. Gould, the multimillionaire capitalist and railway magnate, was married this afternoon to Lord Decies, at St. Bartholomew's Church.
Miss Gould is the youngest American heiress who has become a member of the British peerage, she Laving celebrated her eighteenth birthday last May. She is a granddaughter of the famous Wallstreet speculator, Mr. Jay Gould, and is a niece of Miss Helen Gould, the philanthropist. The wedding ceremony was unusual for America, for it was military. Lord Decies wore his uniform as major of the 7th Hussars, and six brother Army and Navy officers attended him, also in uniform. Several thousands of sightseers crowded about St. Bartholomew's (lurch, liadison-avenue, and Forty Fourth-atreet an hour before the wedding, watching the guests arrive. The police had difficulty in keeping a pathway clear for the carriages to approach the church entrance. All the members of New York society were present at, the wedding, and many guests CAM) from Washington and Chicago.
A number also arrived from London, including the Dowager Lady Decies, mother of the bridegroom.
The church was beautifully decorated with white roses and lilies and palms, while festoons of smilax were draped along the walls and among the pillars, choir of the church, assisted by the boys' choir of the Cathedral of John the Divine, sang while the guests were waiting the arrival of the bridal party.
The bride entered the church leaning on the arm of her father.
Miss Gould wore a white satin dress, cut slightly Empire. She had a long Court train, heavily embroidered in silver, and a tulle veil. There was no lace on her dross, and she wore no orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of Ascension lilies, and there was is green wreath in her hair.
The bride's sister Edith, aged ten, attended her as maid of honour, and her still smaller sister Gloria, aged four and a-half, and another little mamsel Miss Diana were flower girls. There were also six bridesmaids, American friends of the bride. Two young nephews of the bridegroom, Marcus and Graham Heresford, were page ushers, all Americans, escorted the bridesmaids. All the ladies wore white satin and chiffon, trimmed with white satin roses. They had no hats, but wore green wreaths instead. The two pages were in white sailor suits. Little Miss - Edith Gould carried sweet peas and lilies of the valley, the two flower girls carried basket of white mere, and the other ladies carried white rose bouquet:.
The bridal party was preceded part of the way up the aisle by Lord Camoys, Percy, Captain Lomb. Colonel Wilkinson. and the Hon. William Beresford and Captain tioworby, They were in uniform, and as they neared the altar they ranged themselves on either side of the aisle, and, holding their swords aloft, formed an arch, under which the bride and her attendants passed.
At the altar, Lord Decies, attended by his cousin, Lord Alastair Graham (in naval uniform), met his bride. The Right Rev. David H. Greer, Bishop of New York, I assisted by the Rev. Leighton Parks, rector of the church, performed the ceremony.
The wedding ring formerly belonged to the first Lord Decies, Archbishop of Ireland. It is a plain gold band that has been in the Decies family since 1780. Lord Decies had the ring cut down to fit his bride's finger. After the ceremony the bride and bridegroom left the church while Mendelasohn's wedding march was played.

Among the Irish ladies who sent tiaras were Countess of Kdmorey, the Countess of Bessborough, Lady Ross of Balnagowan, and the Duchess of Westminster, who all-round high tiara has in some superb diamonds. The Marchioness of Londonderry has two or three magnificent tiaras, but she sent none, nor did the Duchess of Devonshire, or Viscountess Ridley, the Countess of Granard or the Honourable Mrs. John Ward, all of whom have tiaras excep tional magnificence. The Duchess of Roxburghe, too, has a splendid one, and so has Mrs. Lewis Harcourt.
There was much interest the new Lady Decie’s crown-shaped tiara, which are some singularly large and beautiful stones. The exhibition was aid of the Prince Francis of Tcck Memonial Fund, so one hopes that a great many people planked down their guineas for the show.
