Wedding of Claire Pelly Countess of Pembroke and Lord Herbert, 18th Earl of Pembroke, 14th Earl of Montgomery 1939-2003
On 20 January 1966 he married his first wife, Claire Rose, daughter of Douglas Gurney Pelly, of the Pelly baronets. The couple divorced in 1981.
We see above in the picture, Lady Claire Herbert, Countess of Pembroke in her wedding gown, with the delicate sapphire and diamond tiara, which was used as Pembroke wedding tiara since that time, at least in the year 2010 of her daughter-in-law Victoria Bullough
and stepdaughter Lady Jemima Herbert in 2021.
It was probably made of some wedding gift to Lady Mary, her mother-in-law, which was given a lot of sapphire jewelry.
The diamond fringe tiara consised 15 Sapphires and Diamond Cluster on top of the spikes, between small styled trefoils in diamond on a base of diamond and sapphire setted closed in front. The base looks like the sapphire coronet of Queen Victoria.
