This royal wedding gift was from the People of South Africa in England, to Princess May of Teck, Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1893.
"The fund raised by Mr Edward P. Mathers, of South Africa, from the South Africans in England to present the Princess May with a wedding gift is being expended in the purchase of a fan to be composed of white ostrich feathers, ivory, diamonds and gold - all products of South Africa."
"Both sides of the handle of the fan will be ornamented with rich diamonds sprays, the design being the York Rose and Royal Mayflowers meeting in a true lovers knot, with the word "May" in choice brilliants."The whereabouts of the fan is unknown. One of the most noteworthy fan collectors was Queen Mary.
