Princess Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg was the wife of Emperor Wilhelm II and as such was German Empress and Queen of Prussia from 1888 to 1918.
This sapphire diamond set is not the historical sapphire set of the family jewelry of the house Preussen- Hohenzollern.
The empress also had her own jewelry collection, including the gifts she received for weddings and births, as well as other honors. Part of it is this necklace made of twelve oval sapphire cabochons framed by diamonds and connected by twelve smaller clovers set with diamonds.
The frames of the three middle cabochons each have a hook.
Above in the picture with the Empress Auguste Viktoria, the original garland of diamonds with three teardrop-shaped sapphire cabochons framed by small diamonds can be attached. This garland was probably taken apart later, and in 1953 Robert Koch made a pendant and a pair of earrings from the pendant links.
The cross-oval sapphire cabochon of the brooch is set in gold and framed by small leaves set with diamonds. The sapphire necklace was made around 1905 by the jeweler Koch / Werkstatt Gebr Kreuter Hanau.
The theme with the shamrocks runs through your decorative ornamentation in different forms and repeats itself again and again. It is not known that the Crown Princess Cecilie received the sapphire set after the death of Empress Auguste Viktoria.
The empress may have bequeathed it to her grandson Prince Louis Ferdinand. Or the emperor left it to his grandson, in 1957 it was carried by Grand Duchess Kira Romanov, his wife.
