The Princess Royal's wedding present, see above in the picture, was ". . . a stomacher brooch of brilliants. The stones in this superb ornament are large and of the purest water, and the setting and design are exquisite.” From the Princess of Prussia (Vicky's mother-in-law). I take that to mean Princess Augusta, mother of the groom, as she was not queen at that time.
Elisabeth Ludovika, Princess of Bavaria was Queen of Prussia, Queen Consort of Friedrich Wilhelm IV. She was very fond of Princess Vicky.
On the day of her entry into Berlin, Her Majesty presented the Princess with a precious brooch with pearls and diamonds, representing a bouquet of flowers whose leaves are diamonds, while flowers and calyxes of flowers are made of long hanging pearls of rare size.
The 14 pearls weigh 600 grains, the largest of which alone weighs 160 grains. Shape and water are of outstanding beauty. This jewelery is also made by the court jeweller Jean Démessieur.
Frederick William IV's Queen Consort Elisabeth was an exemplary wife and, during his long illness, a dedicated nurse. She was initially hostile to her nephew's British wife, Victoria, Princess Royal, known within the family as Vicky, but their relationship thawed when Vicky took care of Elisabeth and comforted her during the early painful days of her widowhood. Elisabeth never forgot Vicky's kindness and in her will broke with tradition by leaving Vicky her jewels. These jewels were meant to have been bequeathed to the current Queen, Augusta of Saxe-Weimar, Elisabeth's sister-in-law, who was by then Prussian Queen and German Empress); this was an offense for which Augusta never forgave Vicky.
On her arm in the picture above is the emerald bracelet, made by J. Turner, the wedding gift of Prince Albert to his daughter the Princess Royal, Princess Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia.
Unfortunately there are few pictures with the pearl brooch or the diamond corsage with pearls.
Around 1900 in a photograph of her, Victoria Empress Friedrich wore a pearl brooch; it may be a part of the gift of Queen Elisabeth. Large pearls she wore now as earrings, as pendants on the pearl choker and the brooch.
The pearl choker was left by Empress Friedrich to her daughter Sophie Queen of Greece, possibly also the pearl brooch with the large pear shaped pearls, which the Empress,
changed or was changed.
The center of the stomacher on the left side, worn, from Empress Frederick looks more like the Pearl Brooch, which the Queen of Greek owned, in details.
I believe, the brooch, later left from Queen Sophie of Greek and after her death went to Princess Alexandra of Kent, her goddaughter, is probably made from 3 Brooches and the pear shaped pearls of Empress Frederick.
