A diamond tiara formed by a band of leafage design and scrolls and surmounted with a graduation of round and drop shaped diamond collets. The tiara was the wedding gift from Lady and Lord Iveagh to Princess May of Teck, the bride of the Duke of York.
The future Queen Mary wore this tiara not only as a young Duchess of York but also later in her life, pictured wearing it at the Empire Theatre on 02 November 1949.
Her third son Duke Henry of Gloucester, married Lady Alice Montagu Douglas Scott, daughter of the 7th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry. Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, inherited the tiara after the death of Queen Mary in 1953. As shown in the central picture, she wore it to match the 11-row pearl choker with diamond elements, also a heritage jewel of Queen Mary, along with the diamond bow brooch, one of the wedding presents from her husband.
Brigitte, Duchess of Gloucester, the wife of her only surviving son Richard, also uses the tiara for royal engagements.
In the fourth generation Lady Rose Windsor, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Gloucester, wore it at her wedding with George Gilman in 2008. Lady Rose also wore a pair of Art Deco diamond clips that have also been worn by her paternal grandmother and her mother.
