Burglary in Historic Green Vault
A sixth urgent suspect has been arrested today in connection with the burglary of the Historic Green Vault in November 2019.
The 23-year-old Ahmed R. was arrested by forces of the Dresden police in a flat in Berlin-Treptow at around 9 o’clock this morning. Twenty-four officers of the Dresden police were involved in the operation. A mobile phone was seized during the search of the flat.
The Dresden public prosecutor’s office accuses the accused of aggravated gang theft and arson, among other things.
The accused is to be brought before the investigating judge in Dresden later today.
In the course of the investigations so far, three urgent suspects were arrested in Berlin on 17 November 2020. A fourth urgent suspect was arrested in Berlin on 14 December 2020 , and a fifth urgent suspect was also arrested in Berlin on 17 May 2021 (see media information of the Dresden public prosecutor’s office of 18 May 2021).
The public prosecutor’s office assumes that all six persons who were directly involved in the burglary of the Historic Green Vault have been identified. Furthermore, the investigations – also into the whereabouts of the stolen art treasures – are continuing. Due to the scope and complexity of the case, they will take a considerable amount of time.
