THE QUEEN’S NIZAM OF HYDERABAD
ROSE BROOCHES
Cartier, London, 1939
Diamonds, platinum
4.2 cm and 3.3 cm diameter;
Three brooches in the form of roses, with tremblant brilliant centres, the petals pavé-set with brilliants.
THE THREE brooches – one large and two small – were originally the detachable parts of a Cartier tiara, which entered the London branch as stock in 1939 .
Although the tiara was worn occasionally over the following 25 years, it was broken up in 1973, and the stones were used by Garrard to create a new tiara, incorporating 96 rubies given to Princess Elizabeth as a wedding present by the people of Burma.
Cartier Archive, F.3600.
It was set with 1,033 brilliants, 84 baton diamonds and 17 diamond beads.
