Grand Duchess Olga Feodorovna Romanov Sapphires | Royal Imperial Jewel History

The barely seventeen-year-old Princess Cecilia of Baden (1839-1891) married on August 16, 1857 the Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov (1832-1909), the youngest son of Tsar Nicholas I and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna. Prior to marrying, it was necessary for Cecilia to accept the Russian Orthodox faith.
So she was baptized on August 15, 1857 in a ceremony, being given the name Olga Feodorovna

Her jewelry is famous, and her sapphire parure was later owned by two of her children the Grand Duchess Anastasia Michaelovna Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg Schwerin and her Grand Duke Mikhail Mikhailovich Romanov, who sells them to Henry Lascelles, later the Earl of Harewood, it was his wedding gift to Princess Mary of Great Britain, see in the picture below.

She wore it as stomacher and devante de corsage, or used single ornaments as brooches. The Princess Royal had no pierced ears, so she wore no earrings.

Royal Turquoise and Diamond Parure of Duchess Victoria Adelaide of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

The marriage of Duke Charles Edward of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha with Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, was celebrated on 11 Oct 1905 in the presence of the German Emperor and Empress.

The Duke, who was the only son of the late Duke and the Duchess of Albany, had acceded to the Dukedom of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in July 1900. The bride, dressed in white silk with a veil, was led down the aisle walking between the Emperor William and her father Duke Frederick Ferdinand followed by her six bridesmaids. On either side of the bridegroom was his mother the Duchess of Albany and the German Empress.

The presents of the groom's aunt and uncle, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, consisted of costly furniture and of a parure of diamonds for the bride. The gift of the Prince and the Princess of Wales was a silver cup and that of the Duchess of Albany a diamond parure. The Kaiser and the Kaiserin presented a service of china from KPM.

The jewel was a wedding gift in 1893 from Queen Mary’s in-laws, the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

The center of the ornament is a large round turquoise cabochon, surrounded from 14 diamonds.

Above on the left in the picture, Queen Mary wearing the Turquoise Diamond Cluster Brooch with a pendant, it looks like one of the  „chips“, the smaller parts  of the Cullinan Diamonds.

After her death, in 1953 the turquoise brooch, was inherited by her granddaughter, Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II, wore the Turquoise and Diamond Brooch three times, at least on 5th April in 2020 when she had addresses to the UK and Commonwealth in a special broadcast recorded at Windsor Castle.
